A native of Richmond, VA., Lorenza Ricardo Meekins, is the second son of Mr. Vincent (deceased) and the Rev. Gladys Meekins. He has three brothers, all who are preachers of the gospel of Jesus Christ. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in History with honors from Livingstone College, Salisbury, N.C., a Certificate in Pastoral Counseling, The School of Allied Health Professions, Virginia Commonwealth University, A Master of Divinity degree, from the Graduate School of Theology, Virginia Union University, Richmond, VA., and a Doctor of Ministry degree, Howard Divinity School, Howard University, Washington, D.C.

He served as an intern minister at the Hood Temple AME Zion Church, Richmond, Va. He was pastor of the St. Thomas AME Zion Church, Dewitt, VA., and the Patterson Asbury AME Zion Church, Baltimore, MD., where he served for 3 years before entering the Air Force Chaplaincy in March of 1983.

His professional military education includes: Marriage and Family Counseling training, West Lake Village, CA., Ministry to Chaplains, Phase I, Scottsdale, AZ., Lieutenants Professional and Development Course, Torrejon AB, Spain, Advance Training in Homiletics, Ministry to Aids Patients, Minority Issues, Singles Ministry, and Prayer/Meditation, Air University, Maxwell AFB, AL. He completed the Air Force Chaplains Orientation Course, the Air Force Officers Orientation Course, the Chaplains Intermediate Course, and Academic Instructor School, all at Air University, Maxwell AFB, AL. He completed Squadrons Officers School by Correspondence.

His military decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with 1 device, Air Force Commendation Medal with 1 device, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with 4 devices, National Defense Service Medal, Arm Forces Expeditionary Medal, Humanitarian Medal with 1 device, Air Force Overseas Short and Long Tour Ribbon, Air Force Longevity Service Award with 2 devices, Air Force Training Ribbon and NATO Medal.

Dr. Meekins was retired honorably from active duty on January 1st, 2000, in the grade of Major.

Dr. Meekins has traveled extensively the world over, preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ.

In October of 1999, he was appointed Pastor of the St. Joseph African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, Chesapeake, Va. Following a successful pastorate there, he was assigned to the St Paul AME Zion Church in July 2005, where in less than 4 years by the grace of God; he led the congregation to retire a $277,000 mortgage.

On July 3rd, 2011, Dr. Lorenza Ricardo Meekins and his wife Mrs. Helena Faye Meekins, (who God called from labor to reward on January 1, 2014), was appointed Pastor of the Zion Chester A.M.E. Zion Church, Chester, VA. Under Dr. Meekins’ leadership Zion Chester strives to become in the words of Randy Moody, A REAL CHURCH, by following Christ’s mandate to be a beacon of light in the community and winning souls for the Kingdom. We are fulfilling that mandate through being a more loving, praying and giving church.

Dr. Meekins is an ordained Deacon and Elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church.
